Lying in the Dark

We were lying there in the dark.
Thinking.
Again,  about mistakes,
Things we should have said,
Tears we should have held,
Vows we should have kept.
In the dark we didn’t stop thinking,
about those flickers of light
That passed in the streets,
Late at night,
Very late,
In the dead night,
There everything was bright,
As clear as that drink we had
when we first loved,
and fell down from our flight
After we flew very high,
Our waxed wings couldn’t hold.
These were our dreams,
Not yet shattered,
For the night was still young,
Everything was still bright,
and our youth was only white.
Then…
The dawn came, we were already asleep.
